Today’s 110,000-pound (49,894 kg) Terex® TC550 compactor features a new on-demand hydraulic steering and blade control system that incorporates upgraded blade lift and steering cylinders to improve machine performance, reduce heat buildup and extend the life of system components, so customers can maximize machine uptime for better landfill space management.
The new cylinder design includes enhancements to the internal piston construction and high pressure O-Ring face seals that improve cylinder reliability as well as provide a better seal between fittings. Both the blade lift and steering cylinders, which feature independent hydraulic systems to improve machine performance, now operate with on-demand oil flow, significantly reducing heat buildup to substantially increase component life.
New, more durable steering cylinder mounting helps to better absorb frame torsion and twisting when compacting the face. Reinforced mounts are securely supported by the main frame to extend cylinder life and reduce the potential for cracking of main frame, reducing long term operating costs.
Inside the cab, new joysticks deliver more dependable control of the blade, travel direction, steering and working speed range. Located on either arm rest, the electronic joysticks eliminate the wear point of brass bushings, increasing reliability and lowering service costs.
Providing equipment managers and service technicians with additional peace of mind, the new Terex® asset management (TAM) system for the TC550 uses the latest in GPS and satellite technology to track important operational information and relay critical service and fault codes. The new system measures machine hours, logs compactor location and distributes email alerts for scheduled maintenance intervals. Almost instantaneously, TAM reports fault codes for many critical systems and components, including pump gearbox pressure, charge pump pressure, hydraulic oil temperature, electronic joystick control and the engine, so small issues can be addressed before they become major service items.
All Terex® TC550 landfill compactors put into service after Jan. 1, 2008, are covered by an extended warranty policy of one year, unlimited hours for parts and equipment, which doubles the former coverage for genuine OEM parts and eliminates the 2,000-hour warranty ceiling previously covering the compactor. Improving machine maintenance and reliability, the Terex® Managed Maintenance Fluid Analysis program gives TC550 customers a picture of fluid contamination and the internal condition of a component or system, so minor issues can be corrected at a lower cost before they become a major problem and expenditure. The new Terex® remanufacturing program gives new life to hydraulic pumps and motors by offering high-performance parts remanufactured to factory-new specifications, complete with a 12-month warranty, at a fraction of the cost.
An exclusive triangular wheel configuration allows the Terex® TC550 landfill compactor to deliver full-width coverage in a single pass. Its 110,000-pound (49,894 kg) weight and unique wheel design delivers 733 lb per liner inch (PLI) compaction force, the highest in the industry, so landfill operations can compact more weight in less space. Powered by a 525 hp (391 kW) Tier-3, turbocharged diesel engine, this high density landfill compactor delivers over 30 percent more compaction force than any other compactor on the market.
